Abstract

Kamala Markandaya is a prominent woman writer in Indian English literature. The present paper focuses on
the socio-literary characteristics through her novels. She believes literature can be of benefit and can
influence society. Her works of fiction help us to realise the differences between rural and urban culture.
Because Kamala Markandaya is so intimately familiar with the rural and urban life of southern India, she is
very successfully truthful. Indeed, she has so skilfully removed the essential aspects and the multi-coloured
flowers from the bower of human life through her novels. The paper provides a critical analysis of the novel,
Two Virgins wherein she demonstrates how culture clashes can happen.
