Women have long played an indispensable role in dairy farming, contributing significantly to the sustainability and success of the dairy industry. This paper explores the multifaceted responsibilities and contributions of women in dairy farming, emphasizing their essential role in rural agriculture and economies. Women's engagement spans across various facets of dairy farming, from livestock management to milk production, processing, marketing, and advocacy for gender-inclusive policies. In dairy farming, women are often the primary caretakers of the livestock, responsible for their well-being, nutrition, and overall health. This essential role ensures the productivity of dairy animals, which, in turn, directly impacts milk and dairy product output. Additionally, women are actively involved in milking, a critical daily task, and play a significant role in maintaining the quality and hygiene of the milk produced. Beyond the farm gate, women are frequently engaged in processing dairy products, such as making cheese, butter, and yogurt, transforming raw milk into value-added goods. Their involvement in dairy product processing adds economic value to the dairy industry and expands market opportunities for these products. Furthermore, women contribute to marketing efforts by participating in local markets and selling dairy products, making dairy farming a viable and sustainable livelihood option for rural communities. Women in dairy farming also serve as advocates for gender-inclusive policies and initiatives that empower female farmers and enhance their participation in the sector. They often work towards breaking down barriers to women's entry into the dairy industry, including land rights, access to credit, and training opportunities. Despite their significant contributions, women in dairy farming face numerous challenges, including limited access to resources, technology, and education. Addressing these challenges and recognizing the crucial role of women in dairy farming is not only a matter of gender quality but also central to achieving food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering rural development.
